Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

We don't want your money: A Christmastime bleg to our visitors, old and new

Maggie's has been fortunate in gaining a goodly number of new readers over the past month. We are pleased by that, and offer y'all a hearty welcome to the Farm.


If you enjoy Maggie's Farm, the best holiday present you can give us is to send our site around to anybody who might enjoy it. A growing readership, and readers' feedback, are our only tangible rewards for our (usually) enjoyable efforts.


Remember - you do not have to be a right-wing wacko to find our rationalist, centrist site an interesting addition to your day. We aren't all about politics, and plenty of Libs read us just for the fun of it. There's more to life than the sleazy soap opera of politics (despite our little, old-fashioned hang-ups about political and economic freedom and minor details like that).

(If you happen to be Chinese, so much the better. Why our China readership is so low is difficult to understand unless we are blocked by the government: we're a pretty good sample of ordinary American life for the curious. We would love to have a good-sized Chinese readership.)

The things dogs put up with, eh?

A few years ago I was in Ljubljana (Slovenia*) for Christmas. Walking along the street one night near the Christmas market, I encountered a man with three dogs: one in a Father Christmas (Santa) outfit, the other two dressed as elves.

The dogs gave me that look that said: "Yeah, it's embarrassing. But he feeds us."

* This country is one of the best kept secrets in Europe! Wonderful place!

I'm usually so busy reading all your great links that I have trouble coming up with witty and concise comments worthy of the Farm, but I do want to say that I appreciate this site. I'll work on being a better commenter - first resolution for 2012! And, I'll point more friends here. Merry Christmas, and keep up the good work!

BD, et al., put up with my inane and unconnected with reality commentary and even post a few things occasionally - jump on in, the water is fine. Well, mostly fine. Occasionally it gets a little cold in a "shrinkage" kind of way but Maggie's is located in New England so that should be expected.

True, but that begs the question - can you be a rational centrist wacko?

That is absolutely true and in my case I never leave Maggie's without having learned something.

LOVE the Farm here but you folks are about as "centrist" as Bill Maher or Bill O'Reilly. Cripes.

I do appreciate that you're all bright right wingers but centrist is not what I think of when I read here.

Happy holidays to all of you and thanks for all the really great links. I have used Maggie's in my classroom many times this past year~

....and I have pointed many friends and colleagues to this wonderful place.

I do think we are Centrist. Average Consercvatives with a dose of Libertarian, like the bulk of Americans.

I doubt many outside of the Northeast or California would disagree with that.
