Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re Raise other men's children, Not my job.
I agree with that sentiment in the abstract. However, not all fatherless kids are the offspring of welfare queens. It would be extremely ironic if he ended up marrying a woman with a child. I can imagine circumstances where it could happen. The rest of his life style suggestions pretty much peg out the immature meter. The rest of his lifestyle suggestions pretty much peg out the immaturity meter IMO. Feeble,
You are absolutely correct that not all children who grow up "fatherless" are from the wombs of welfare queens. Fathers walk out on their children every day. Some of them are well off and do little or nothing to make sure the children they walked out on don't become welfare princes and princesses. I can't fathom it but it happens. That said and recognized, however, it is not only non-fathers who have a right to not be called upon or expected to be fathers to other people's children. I've fathered and raised my own. I neither bear nor want a father's responsibility for anyone else's children and I find it troublesome that people seem to expect it from men who take care of their families. It is very similar to expecting those who pay their debts and their taxes to assume responsibility for the debts and taxes of deadbeats for the "good of society". I am a member of the majority of our society who pays their debts and honors their responsibilities to their families. I am a member of the majority 53% who pays their taxes. I am sick of having demands made upon me to pick up the taxes and debts and, now, family responsibilities for freaks and deadbeats. The Marine link is broken - no h in the http.
believers, skeptics battle to explain early wintry weather I'm always amused at this "climate change" nonsense. When you think about it, there isn't an adequate way to describe weather as "stable" - which would create the conditions for change wouldn't you think? The whole premise is false. On a related note, it would appear that President Present is killing the Keystone Pipeline by voting "present" and not doing anything to move it forward. Never mind that it would create a ton of jobs, put folks back to work, etc. President Present has lost a substantial portion of his base and he only has the enviros left so he has to pander to them. 2012 can't come soon enough. MLK's niece Whoa - the gal is speaking truth to power. the last thing the liberals want is a head to head contest between a dark skinned African American and a light skinned African American. Portable Digital Photo Booth I really got a laugh out of this comment attached to the article. Some commenters were dissing the photo prints by stating that it was easier to just send the photo to Facebook, Twitter or whatever - easier and cheaper. This is in reply: "People just won't learn. All magnetic media dies. If all your stuff is on a tablet, you're going to lose it. Nonacid paper is much more durable. The only real question in printed photos is the longevity of the inks, especially the color inks. Ink longevity is very good in modern desktop printers, but if Polaroid is true its own tradition its inks will fade. Baked clay is best for longterm record keeping." The 'Big Bang Gas' article just about sets a world record for assuming facts not in evidence.
"Polaroid's New Instant Digital Camera"
Thank goodness they finally came out with an instant digital camera! Mine takes a good .0003, 0004 seconds before the pic's ready. Actually, they meant "instant print studio" or some such. What strikes me, though, is the gigantic size. According to the site, that's a 3x4" pic coming out of it, which means this thing is huge. Hopefully, it has those little wheels like luggage has for easier portability between locations. "I never heard of 'Palestinian Theology' before" You must not be into oxymorons. :) "The Five Most Infantile Beliefs on Display at the ‘Occupy’ Tantrums" Say, there's a coincidence. With laserlike precision, Bird Dog and I both focused on the exact same article this morning. I even left a comment, which I don't do on PJ Media very often. But it was so cute and witty and insightful that I think I'll post it here. I'll post it at 11:11, just to pick a time at random. This is probably overly saccharine but bagpipes are an experience and Sgt Mackenzie was real. In Gaelic, with --oh well, you'll see.
