We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Hope for all of us. You don't have to be a good person to inspire others. All of us are needed. Doesn't matter what you think of the "author"--this call has always inspired me, and millions of others. So be more charitable you Pharisee Republicans! No telling who may inspire the masses to heroism, self-sacrifice
Why can't Lefty commenters resist any opportunity to slip in a seemingly moralizing message of "Give us your money"?
That's not what JFK meant, for certain, and it trivializes the message he wanted to send. This kind of dishonesty p's me off to no end.
Whence this displaced hostility, Kim? I said nothing about your money, and have no interest in it. The call to self-sacrifice that I heard and have tried to follow, was a call to give my life not merely empty my pockets. It is far easier to write a check than to devote oneself body and soul to a vocation. As the Bible describes my God, He is one who desires "mercy, not sacrifice". In other words, if we are to sacrifice self, we are to show love, not just hold on for grim death to our wallets.
I am not a lefty, just a sinner in need of God's grace. I despise all politics, and only vote for the man or woman on the ballot whose actions most closely follow the teachings of Christ.
We all need to be more charitable, and that doesn't mean buying tickets for fancy fundraisers where we can shop til we drop and justify it as in a good cause. We need to show each other more Christian love and understanding, even if we find each other's politics revolting, mystifying or just plain craven.
The wonderful thing about God's truth is that it is just as powerful spoken by an adulterous drug addict as by some squeaky clean evangelist. That remark of JFK's stirred so many hearts to do good.
Am still mystified what made you think I am a mugger after your money. Your hoard is safe.
And how was what I said dishonest?
I could speculate as to what is making you so angry in your personal life, but that is your affair. If it gets too bad, get a prescription for Risperdal. Used mainly as an antipsychotic, but also valuable for dampening down unreasonable rages and anxieties....
don't even feel a need to respond to any of it but I will because i can. JFK wasn't asking for money or anythng else and he may not have written the famous line in the first place but in the end is it any different from what they say in the gospels? No. I think not, I think it it all comes down to doing what is right. Plain and simple, isn't it? Just do what is right for you , for me and for country and at thistime, in Global politics, any country will do . As NIKE says, "JUST DO IT" and do it anyway you can.
