Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Maggie's Weiner

You may have noticed, and be thankful, that Maggie's Farm has not participated in the WeinerWanker festival. Indeed, I'd forgotten that I'd exposed Congressman Anthony Weiner's putziness last February 25. The current posts at Don Surber and then at The Other McCain reminded me. A "putz" is commonly described as someone with a pattern of behavior as a fool. Those who elect them or defend them are a fool's tool.


I could go on with the verbal connections, but the deeper thrusts needn't further penetrate. Or, need they?

He didn't break any laws, there would be obvious cyber evidence of what he did, so why the douchnozzle approach to the whole thing?

No, he didn't appear to break any laws pertaining to either Federal Code or State Code. If Congressman Weiner's wife wants to remain married to a juvenile tweeter, that is her business. If Congressmen Weiner's constituents want to keep a juvenile tweeter as their representative, that is their business.

By first claiming to be an innocent victim of a hacking and then 'fessing up, Congressman Weiner has shown himself to first be a hypocrite- someone who pretends to be better than he really is- and subsequently to be a liar. He is also a very convincing liar, as shown by the ABC video, for example. A convincing liar is a psychopath. If the voters wish to retain a hypocrite and psychopathic liar as their Congressman, that is their business.

One thing for sure. Weiner was one of the big attack dogs on the Democratic Party side. He has effectively defanged himself. Anytime he now attacks, he will be laughed at.

Megan McArdle has been hosting entertaining discussions about whether he should resign. As James Taranto pointed out today, though, he can't resign -- that would require him to spend more time with his family.

Peccable ... in Yiddish, putz has another meaning. It's not 'a model village.' It's a misbehaving member, which Weiner certainly is. Bruce can explain it better than I can, hampered as I am by being raised by a Victorian mother. Anyway, no self-respecting male wants to be called that.
