Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

'Ya know, if anybody ran their lives or their businesses like our professional politicians ran the government, we'd be making small rocks out of big ones, wearing ankle chains.
Who'd in their right minds would ever spend MORE than they take in? Sorry, had a lapse of common sense - there's a pill for that, right? Come on, Bruce! Egypt didn't find those pyramids. Somebody with a satellite found those pyramids.
Technological development in Egypt probably peaked around the time of the pyramids. I recommend the Very Cool Graphics, which gives a visual presentation on which food supplements work, linked to the appropriate studies.
I liked the words accompanying the sheep and sheepdog picture. What would the world be like if sheep could think like that? Gee, not to be 'controversial' or anything, but I've written counterpoints to two of the above links.
As far as NASA goes, I've read a handful of articles that made a pretty good argument how the Constellation project was turning into an umpteen-billion-dollar boondoggle. And one has to admit that the three astronauts he used as the backbone of the article have a vested interesting in keeping the manned portion of the space program alive. But check out this line: "Obama has adopted a pedestrian and short-sighted policy that has contributed to a situation that will force any American astronaut or scientific project to buy a ticket on (irony of ironies) a Russian spacecraft." Pardon me? If we want to probe the atmosphere of Saturn's moons, it has to be a manned flight? As far as NASA in general goes, I had this to say about it five years ago, and I can't say my opinion's changed. Throw in how much damage they've done to humanity by harboring and abetting war criminal James Hansen and I'm not sure I'd shed a tear if the whole place burned to the ground. I'd be hoping the museum building had a good sprinkler system, though, since it'd be a shame to lose those mementos from the days back when NASA had a goal other than self-preservation. And as far as this insipid wreck goes: "Where is everybody?" That was just awful. What's it take for life to exist? Why, no big deal at all: "...what we need is actually pretty simple. We need to be the right distance from the Sun in order to have liquid water." And there you have it, folks. Easy-peasy. Just add water. Never mind that, in order to evolve, there must be a birth-death cycle of life, and in order to obtain that you need seasons, and in order to obtain those you need just the right axis tilt and have just the right elliptical orbit -- but forget all that! Just add water. But the biggest problem with his by-the-numbers argument is that he only focuses on the probable. But it was the improbable event of an asteroid clobbering us hard enough to form the perfect moon to churn the oceans and stir the cauldron of new life, and then the improbable asteroid that removed the predominant life form that was blocking our evolutionary path -- and as soon as you introduce the improbable into the equation, that whole by-the-numbers argument simply evaporates. Bruce, the 'conspiracy' pic was outstanding. Kind of related. Re. Pyramids.
I recognized one of them, built by my great great greater than great Uncle. My family stilll has the keys to that Pyramid. I look forward to returning to reclaim it. Heck of a rehab I expect. N Re NASA:
I believe the rot set in long before 0bama came to power. While there are obviously some very able technocrats there, the organization seems to be beyond salvation, what with the pseudoscience advocating man made global warming, outcome based solutions to problems and promotions instead of using reason and merit. I dunno. I think the only hope for space exploration is private enterprise. NASA: 10 trillion dollars in my lifetime, and all I got was a glass of Tang?!
You got much more than Tang. To name just two, you got the full-body TSA security scanners from the same folks (at MIT spinoff AS&E) who developed the X-ray astronomy imaging telescopes that NASA has launched so successfully over the past 4 decades. And now the same folks have taken the technology even farther so police can peer INSIDE your house from the street to see whether you're being bad or good little boys and girls. Better not be growing any weed or doing naughty terrorist kind of stuff....they're gonna get'cha (and they don't need a warrant to see you in your birthday suit).
...and I'm really starting to wonder about you, Bruce, what with the sheep and all...
Don't think Baaaahdly of me.
Know why Osama bin Laden crossed the road? He was stuck in his sheep. True story:
Just as I'm reading this, I just loaded a Beatles disk, and the song was "She Loves You." Lyric? "She loves you, and you know that can't be baaahd." Life is funny as heck... |
