We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Wiring, not chemistry

I have always contended that the most severe mental disorders, eg Autism and Schizophrenia, were wiring problems rather than chemical problems.


Finally, it is becoming a major field of study: The miswired brain.


In my view, we all have different wiring, and we all have some loose wires and short circuits and sparking, but some loose wires cause more problems than others. Some will just make you more interesting, but some will burn your house down.

Wiring, in the field of explainationism, works as a bottom term, that is a term not seeming itself to need explanation, because it covertly imports writing.

I myself go right to the bottom term and say that mental disorders are caused by bad punctuation and run-on sentences.

Schizophrenia can be analogized to random short circuits in a computer. With no shorts the mind is concrete, lacking in insight and creativity. Too many shorts prevent proper functioning.

Drugs affect the conductivity of the brain. Marijuana, for instance, tends to make a schizophreniac worse by increasing conductivity, thereby making for more shorts. Anti-psychotic drugs decrease conductivity and shorts but also interfere with normal functioning of the brain.

Free will exists, so final outcomes are affected by conscious and subconscious desires.

But is wiring--that is, brain architecture--a part of the picture? I believe it is.
