We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I have a friend who was a dog handler in Vietnam. He would take the dogs into the jungle, find the caves, then go into the caves. Scary as hell, even with the dogs. Last I recall, he and his wife have two little Shih Tzus.
My father never spoke of his military experience when he was in Africa during WW II, in the British Army. He never spoke of his experience when he was in the Israeli Army during the War of Independence.
He did share with me his experience with two white German Shepherds when he was put on guard duty in Israel.
He always spoke of the two white German Shepherds with respect and love. As he got older, he like to tell that story again and again.
I never got tired of hearing it.
