Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Isn't Shrum the guy who been with every LOSING Democratic candidate for 20 or 30 years?
As Grant implies, Shrum is likely wrong again, as usual. Gas, and Grocery prices, inflation, unemployment and 0bamacare will drive next year's election results. Next to those issues, the death of OBL will be no more than ancient history by Nov 2012.
Agree 1,000%. Any article using the words "Laden" and "election" in the same paragraph isn't worth the pixels it's printed on. Barring unforeseen events, the 2012 election will be about economics, economics, and economics, in roughly that order.
However:
“Brussels, Belgium, Feb 8, 2011 / 01:13 am (CNA).- A European Union-published school calendar made a ‘regrettable omission’ in excluding Christian religious holidays, the publisher announced. It has sent out corrections to all teachers who have ordered the edition. ‘There was never an intention to discriminate against the Christian religion in this publication,’ the European Commission’s Consumer Affairs department stated.” http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/eu-calendar-publishers-reverse-course-will-include-christian-holidays/ You may share this with Mrs. BD.
Not everybody goes to Costco. Yours truly does not go to Costco. Neither does anyone in his family. This may have something to do with the fact that there haven't been any Costco facilities within a days driving distance of where we lived and are living now. :>) Thanks for the link to my Shale Gas Shock post. It is a big story!
Having lived in Costcoland for many years, and being now a three-hour round trip from the closest one, I react with truly sinful envy any time I hear about someone fortunate enough to go there.
I wrote to Costco management and begged them to come here a couple years ago. They actually got back to me, and said "We have no plans to come there." I was suicidal for a while... Along with showing ID at the polling place, Maybe also a tax return for the past year showing income taxes paid.
I also think that federal taxes should be imposed by congressional district. If your congressman votes for higher taxes, your district gets to pay them; leave everybody else alone. That way democratic congressmen can have their taxes and their constitutents can eat them. Blick Certainly, if there are no photos of Obama's ghost none will be forthcoming.
But wait! http://thepeoplescube.com/peoples-blog/exclusive-photo-of-osama-bin-laden-being-shot-t7183.html#p123785 Truth is always stranger than fiction and truth can be verified . El presidente has been lying all his life ain't ain't in store for him repenting any tiome soon, as this latest dubious show attests. Can yall remeber what TEA stands for?
Don't yall go shootin' yer feet, yanks. Why do Luddite environmentalists oppose natural gas drilling? I think it is because they've managed to create a very comfortable life for themselves and are afraid of any outside disturbance to that serenity, which might require them to adapt to a brand new reality. Afraid of change, they do everything in their power to preserve their own status quo with no regard for the costs of their actions on others. Deep down, the motivation is pure selfishness not altruism.
What were they watching in the Situation Room? Probably Leon Panetta, who was following the progress of the raid from Langley, which appears to have had the only direct feed from the field. It's hard to tell whether the audio feed cut out when the video feed went dead, but it appears that it did, and so the blackout may have been complete.
Why isn't the photo of bin Laden's corpse being released? Maybe Obama figures that hiding his birth certificate worked so well for him that he should do the same for the photo? I like Greg Gutfeld's take on it: if the President is afraid that releasing the photo will inflame Muslims, doesn't that mean he's conflating the large majority of moderate Muslims, who would not react that way, with the tiny minority of radicals who would? And isn't that kind of illogical thinking what we call Islamophobia? Gutfeld is probably right, but I'm wondering whether the President's decision is because he thinks keeping the photo secret means he won't have to share credit with any one else known to the public, except for the anonymous SEALS and CIA operatives whose identities will probably never be revealed (and yes, I do think he is that calculating). Eventually the photo will have to be released from the National Archives, most likely as part of Obama's Presidential papers. Wherever the photo gets displayed, it will be viewed with great curiosity by many people. What better highlight could there be for any Presidential library? I don't. Then again, the price of a membership would not be matched by the savings I'd get, even over the course of a year.
Yes, for some people membership stores just aren't worth what they charge for a membership. My wife and I shop at Costco and have their Amex card. We use that card almost exclusively these days, even to pay for cruises and other vacation trips. The rebate we get back at the end of each year just from the costs of our travel is more than enough to offset the small membership fee. It puts us way ahead even if we never shopped in our local Costco. However, it happens that the produce we buy there is of much better quality than what we could buy in any other store except for the very expensive ones we choose to avoid. After years of spending more to buy lower quality food at other stores, we signed up and now we enjoy the savings.
Its not drilling its fracking. Drilling involves a bit not injecting a million gallons of water into a bore hole. We already got your trash and the god fearing folks of PA don't need your high dollar chemicals pumped in the ground. You think its contained but you dont know reality. Personally I hope they poison the NYC drinking water to weed the imbecile bailout millionaires out of the gene pool. I am off to Kona to enjoy the summer Marlins. My land and my mineral rights are not for sale. I care too much about the Susquehanna and her People, stripers and crabs.
