We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I haven't been fishing in years, but did alot of it growing up when we vacationed on Saginaw Bay. Had my own pole and tackle box and gear/lures when I was just a nine-year-old girl, could set up a three-hook line with sinkers, or bobbers, or casting lures.
Thanks to my big brothers for teaching me all that. Fishing is good for everybody.
Give a man a fish and you can sell him an aquarium and the accessories needed to run it.

Had not heard that before.
But I do recall (given my usual bad memory, perhaps distorted) the Terry Pratchett version:
- - - - -
Build a fire for a man, he will be warm for a night.
Set a man on fire, he will be warm for the rest of his life.
I took my 13-year-old son drinking last weekend, first time ever. After half a case (each), I let him drive (first time ever) to McDonald's so we could get filet o' fish sandwiches.
Did I get this whole process backwards or something?
