We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The US already has boots on the ground in Libya; CIA intel guys and "advisors." Money and weapons too, no doubt, for the rag-tag rebels, whoever they are - certainly some or many are Jihadists - and regardless of what amount of support the current government has in the country - which seems to be unknown.
This is an American war, and it is not about freedom and self-determination and it's not simply about humanitarianism unless the US is to become the world's Chief of Police again. I can't even see that it's about geopolitics, as Iraq was, because nobody cares much about Libya except the Italians who get their oil from them. I do not know what it's about, but I would not be surprised if the Russians aand Chinese are amused by how we stepped in this pile of dog crap.
Obama Lied, People Died! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I'm willing to bet that more people have died in the drug wars in Mexico right next door to the US than in far off Libya's civil war. Does the Obama Doctrine by extension call for the US military to get involved in Mexico's turbulent drug wars to prevent massacres of innocent civilians by its powerful criminal element? Or is it fair now to label Obama a war criminal and to urge his arrest and prosecution by the international Criminal Court? Surely the Iraq anti-war protesters have some thoughts they can share with us on that.
This libya war is getting to be more like our entry into viet nam. The start of putting, "CIA intel guys and "advisors", into libya is just like the starting of nam. So here we go again, wonder how long this war will last, 30 years again?
I bet they even try to get the old draft going to man up the forces to pacify libya. Always on a president's whim at any time in any country.
sure glad my grandson will have something to look forward to when he gets out of high school. Just like I did back in the day.
