Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

MAS NYC

Many people only know about the Municipal Art Society of New York through their acclaimed architectural walking tours or their historical preservation efforts, but they do much more than that. A BD daughter is considering getting involved with them, and I'm sure the BD lad would be interested too.


They even have an Urbanist Program.


There are so many cool things in life to get involved with, ways to learn and to be useful and to meet interesting people - and so little time.

...but if it was any other way, time would be our enemy, right? Oppressive and burdensome? So, since life ain't a Dorian Gray proposition, time must be our friend, right? Right?

And the river Buddy, what about the river? Does it pass this way again? You can never step into the same river twice, because the water moves on. And time passes: the wader who steps into the river is no longer the same person.

Remember the...13th Warrior –the Rune Battle Prayer? Michael Crichton wrote the novel, Eaters of the Dead –which adapted as the screenplay. The battle poem isn’t fictive –it’s from a ‘thousand year old manuscript’....

The other battle prayer, whispered by a man certain of his own impending death, the extemporaneous utterance (unlike the ritual Rune prayer) of the Arab Muslim 13th warrior, the accidental ally of the Norse band, as the horrific seemingly supernatural eaters of the dead (possibly, in the far-back myths of origin [and akin to the Hellenic stories of Titans] –Neanderthals) gallop toward them for a showdown fight to the death:

Merciful Father…I have squandered my days with plans of many things.
