We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Anti-multiculturalism is going mainstream, at NRO. It's about time the pols and intelligentsia caught up with the common sense, experience, and wisdom of the people.
I'd be putting this in the same category that "Global warming is dead!" is in. Every time I read that global warming is "dead", I turn around and read another article crying how the diminishing sea ice is killing the polar bears (yesterday on ABC's news site). Now that I've read this article, I'm sure I'll read where some school board has decided to hire more one-armed black Muslim lesbians -- in the name of multicultural diversity, of course.
But yes, it was good to see both Merkel and Cameron 'fessing up. I honestly wouldn't expect it to pick up much steam on this side of the pond, though, for two reasons:
1. This is on a much different level than the "greedy Democrats, socialist Obama" meme that much of the MSM has jumped on lately. There's no one point to focus on, no one group to point a finger at.
2. We don't have anywhere near the problem with multiculturalism that the aforementioned leaders do, to the point where it's not really a "problem", just a trend that's leading us in the wrong direction. So it's hard to picture it becoming any kind of 'national meme', especially with everything else that's going on.
Still, bravo to Merkel and Cameron for laying it on the line. Let's hope it helps.
I agree with Doc. Good to see people waking up, but with it so ingrained in the culture and so many people making a living from it, it is far from dead.
Just the other day I read of cash prizes that are to be awarded if private enterprise can land robots on the moon and make them work. However, one of the cash prizes was to be awarded for 'contributing to diversity in space exploration'. That award sounds more like a hindrance to space exploration than a help.
In addition there are people that still want arbitrary outcomes for gender in science and engineering depts in universities. Hardly sounds like it is dead.
Ditto for Global Warming. I still routinely read articles using global warming/climate change as justification for some policy/project/government expenditure.
If they are 'dead" as BD suggests but it is not stopping the believers from pursuing their agendas. Not yet anyway.
As long as there is big money, easy no-work careers in both neither is going away.
Until the last "Chief Diversity Officer" is dead and a stake is driven through his heart. When the last Carbon Trader is on a street corner with a tin cup.
