We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

If the FCC Had Regulated the Internet

Sad but true, at Slate. We would be ten years behind, with the rent-seekers and the power-seekers in control of it all.


The intertunnels are a lesson in what a truly free market and a free world can do. Watch all governments try to f- it up for their own purposes.


But don't worry. They care deeply about the common good. I have never met Mr./Mrs. Common Good, but I'm sure he, she, or it, is a very fine human being and deserving of special government attention and care.


Government, and government's client and business allies, are "special interests."


Heck, all I really want is some good free porn anyway. The world is full of Lonelyhearts and sometimes I am one of them. So sue me.

I am amazed!. SLATE (!!!!), of all things, has somebody off the reservation that I have understood them to be.

The Slate article really had me interested. Great history of stuff I didn't know/remember, regarding the attempted regulation(s) of the internet.

But then, plop, the article and history ends in the year 2000! What the heck?

No indication that there is a part 2, or that it's "1st in a series," or anything. I want the rest!

I didn't get some of the references because I don't know much about who is who in the techno-geek world. But I did think it was very interesting. I got to the comments and man, were those liberals mad!

At first I wondered why put something anti-big government on SLATE of all places...but Slate is one of the places that most needs to hear messages like this.
