We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I'd be opposed to this. I'd be opposed to Federal dollars to bail out California too. After all, these "Federal dollars" are all borrowed from China or someplace, plus these people have no claim on my income tax.
Re: Dennis Prager's column on self esteem
I thought I read in his first book that a study done long before the "Self Esteem" movement began that the Nazis were more likely to have high self esteem and the people who rescued Jews were more likely to have lower self esteem. (I highly recommend his book, Think a Second Time).
Re: Stripping for climate change
There isn't much better than pretty scantily clad college girls, but after they brought out their signs, I just couldn't watch it any more.
Of course driving is better for Gaia than walking. In order to drive one must pay taxes for gas, vehicle registration, and so on. And we all know that taxes are good for Gaia, and in order to save Gaia we must raise taxes more and more and more.
"I spent a long time gathering and organizing quotes — quotes that amuse or horrify me, and quotes to support my opinionated opinions. They have nothing whatever to do with Cape Cod. In general, I think they are a defense of freedom of expression, civil rights, and rationality, and they tend to fit my politics, so they don't support the Bush-Cheney regime, its associated criminals and incompetents, nor the Tea Crackers."
The links on his page are neat, but does that really sound like "Some good soul"?
