We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
“Wasn’t it Jesus who said: ‘Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s’? Well, BSkyB belongs to Caesar and the Church should keep its eyes on the heavens not on the wheeling and dealing in the City."
When the progs and libs say that that allegations of ∅bama's affinity for socialism are nonsense, you can always enlighten them to what Big Al said on the matter. Similarly, Big Al's statement on Rush shows the dictatorial tendency among the ∅bama supporters.
Be aware of what Big Al says. Just don't consider what he says as an indication of where this country should be headed. However, what he says is not a bad indicator of where ∅bama supporters want this country to be headed.
Re Chicago schools: Father Pfleger is involved with this!!! (I wonder what his lefty friends think?) I went to donewaiting.org and didn't see any Republican organizations (none that I could recognize) but did see "Democrats for Education Reform", though. This is amazing to me since conservatives have been screaming about this for a long time.
I went to private schools till college so that maybe why I am amazed that parents sit still for the government telling them where their kids will go to school every year. But even factoring that in, I still find it odd. After all, parents will move to a certain neighborhood just for the schools sometimes only to have their kids assigned to another school! Even if the government schools were, I still think it is amazing that in "the land of the free" most can't decide where their kids will go to school! If that were the only argument for school choice, I think that would be a powerful one, but there are SO MANY other good reasons for it. I can't come soon enough for me (and my kid is out of school).
