Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

How do you say "Oh, Shit" in Chinese?

The Wall Street Journal reported this collapse in June 2009.  Further photos and analysis show that the pilings were faultily built and that later digging out the ground under one side for an underground garage was not the way to go. 


 


 


 


 



I think I'll pass on the coming Chinese economy cars.

Pretty impressive that (at least from the photo and diagram) it stayed pretty much in one piece.

Compounding the PRC's problems is a "corporate" mentality that will attempt to save face at any cost and never admit to itself or anyone else that it might have buggered up.

Not an encouraging business model.

(The PRC hasn't been a communist state in years; the whole country is now just one huge national corporation in my view.)

A communist state is often (there are examples, notably North Korea and the early USSR where things were indeed religiously pure) nothing more than a big corporate entity where the entire population is the slave labour for the owners (a.k.a. the Party, the PolitBuro, or whatever entity is in charge).

No different from 18th century cotton plantations in the American south enlarged the the scale of entire nations.

Problem is that those entities tend to become greedy for more land and people to fuel their profits and thus become expansionist.

And this is a surprise? All the products the Chinese manufacture are inferior. There is a built in element of self destruction in each product they produce.
