We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
All real estate is "Location, location, location". I dated a girl (many moons... nah, years) ago up in Northern Virginia whose father farmed 80 acres, 40 of them leased. It was a moderate sized farm for the area being so close to D.C. (also where she learned not to hold hands with an idiot ahem who just so happened to touch the electrified fence. Shocking to say the least.) I didn't talk about an acquaintance I was in H.S. with whose father (across the road from my parent's house) who owned outright (several generations) 3000 acres of prime Illinois farmland, plus a large (at the time) hog operation. Then I moved to Texas and perchance drove across the King Ranch on a drive to Brownsville. Now THERE is a moderate spread. heh. (Also no speed limits on the ranch... although there is (was?) a border control checkpoint located some distance into the place.)
Another displaced yankee coworker and I were discussing the cognitive dissonance that up east relatives have with comprehending Texas distance. There, its not unusual to cross several states in a morning's drive to pick up fresh lobster for the evening dinner... where a 300 mile drive requires a vacation plan for a weeks trip. Shoot, 300 miles just barely gets me to my lawyer friend's house down in southwest Houston..... and I've only crossed a half-dozen counties or so to get there.......
So wide open farm country? Yep. love it.... though now that scene requires me to drive quite a distance from Dallas to see it anymore......
