We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A few years ago, you met a dark, handsome stranger, with a cool, remote manner and a smooth line of talk. You didnít know him well, but he had a certain je ne sais quoi that you found irresistible. He was yourself, only better; yourself, only cooler; yourself, as you were in your dreams. You were a long-suffering liberal Democrat, and he was your airbrushed fantasy president come to life: FDR without polio, JFK without women, John Kerry with brains, Al Gore with charisma, Bill Clinton without those cringe-making vibes from Hot Springs. You swooned and you sighed, you got him elected, and you settled in to see how great life could be with someone like you in the Oval Office. And then things began to go wrong.
Junkie ... Good catch on this article. Reading it through, it's bang-on on the important steps from infatuation to utter disillusion, as far as Obama-love is concerned.
Do i think that Obama will save himself with a "Damascus-road moment" as the Apostle Paul did? Unh-unh. Not a chance. Paul was a struggling human being who had real humility in his heart, as well as grace. He was as tough on himself as he was on the rest of fallible humanity. Obama, like Narcissus, is obsessed with his own wonderfulness. He simply won't believe that he could be mistaken. And he is never tough on himself. Only on the other guy, and on us, his constituents, with our guns and our Bibles.
