We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Weighing in at a bruising 11 minutes, this is the longest movie clip in my online collection, but also one of my favorites. It's from the movie The Pentagon Wars, a great story of bureaucratic corruption, ineptitude and inertia.
It's based on a true story.
One cringes to think how much.
Grab a munchie, pop this puppy open to full-screen size, kick back and enjoy.
This certainly isn't the way that the U-2, SR-71 or any of the other incredible aircraft that came out of Kelly Johnson's Skunkworks were developed. The same could be said of the original Jeep. I think you can make a case that the process became more and more untenable as the years went by.
Many years ago Harry Browne (libertarian presidential candidate in 1996 & 2000) suggested that companies should develop military equipment on their own and compete with other manufacturers on price and features. On the face of that, make a lot more sense.
