We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
She quits job, emails office with her erase board messages. Fantastic. I have heard of a MILF but not of a HOPA. Now that I know the term, I have to say I have seen lots of HOPAs. (Note: this is a dubious story, but good even if fictional.)
It is insufferable (and will not long be suffered) to be lectured to and imposed upon by a ruling class that loathes our nation's history, values and accomplishments; by those who are not, in fact, our genuine betters. They are neither better educated nor more profoundly morally versed.
In fact, they are our intellectual and moral inferiors -- not superiors.
Let's start building some freaking small nuke plants. As I have mentioned, we have a small home-made reactor in the farm basement. Runs great except when mice get into the rods. When it runs a bit hot, we just spray it with a hose.
The statement he keeps making about "They ran the car into the ditch and now they want the keys back."President Obama does not care about that car. Veracity should have compelled him to say "Hey, I like this national credit card and there is no way I am ever giving it back."
Wow, six links on Wednesday and two of them were discredited on Tuesday. The story of the woman who quit with the whiteboard messages comes from a website notorious for fake stories, and the claims that Palin's critic is not a teacher and sings in a drag queen band are both spectacularly false. She's a drama teacher and the pic to claim that she was in a band was a pic of her in the play Hedwig and the Angry Inch. That the character was identified in the caption as Hedwig was a clue that should not have been missed.
Unfortunately, the people that ELECTED obama plan to vote in the next election and their disappointment is that he didn't go far enough left (or completely destroy this country).
As for WHO confronted Gov. Palin, let's focus on that rather than WHAT was said during the confrontation.....and we will continue to elect nonentities like obama as long as we do not focus on the important things and get caught up in the "details".
There are only two things I know how to do to help push the nation back on the track of limited government that leads to liberty, to opportunity and to prosperity. I can vote, and I can encourage others to think and to vote.
The article on limited government doesn't explicity talk about a major point but aims toward it, I think. The nanny-bullies are eager to "grant" us license to do foolish things like use drugs or engage in promiscuous sex or spend other people's money and not pay it back. I think adults should have the right to decide about drugs and sex; I don't think anyone has a "right" to borrow money and not pay it back.
At the same time the nanny-bullies offer us license, they are busy taking liberty -- liberty to smoke in a building if you wish to, liberty to start or expand a business, liberty to travel in your own car on your own schedule, owing no one any explanation except maybe your personal circle. Naturally the loss of real liberty is far greater than the illusory gain of license. Much of the license the nanny-bullies use to entice us is to do things that will make us more dependent than ever.
Two hard ones here. First is abortion. I would be perfectly okay with abortion except the child involved is not getting any choices. I squeamishly support abortion choice, at least to viability, because I know that "the old days" were bad. Second - gay marriage. I believe in all of my being that God is okay with gay people and gay sex. I have to think that gay families should have the same support as any families or couples at the law. But I agree that the Catholic Church has the right to stand on its doctrine and refuse gay marriage in the eyes of the Church, and the Unitarians have the right to their doctrine and to recognize gay marriage in their church. What about state law? Maybe state law should only recognize civil union for all couples, gay or straight.
Small nukes. Good idea, should have been done decades ago. not likely to happen for decades to come.
In the last six months or so, I have seen articles about some - because the collapse of the USSR (which largely did not bother with public opinion polls) made problems with them. One article was about automated lighthouses that had been powered by nukes which from accompanying pictures looked about the size of a V8 engine. They were abandoned, and locals naturally stripped everything, with some bad results...
Another did not mention such problems, merely bemoaned that a power program had ceased to exist. There used to be a number of travelling reactors (tracked vehicle about the size of a large SUV or small APC towing a similar-sized trailer containing the plant and equipment) providing power for a month or two at a time for things like logging...
