Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Life before Psychiatry

People love to make fun of Psychiatry, but here's a sample of what life could be like in a world without us.


Remember that Dr. Benjamin Rush, the founder of American Psychiatry, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was vehemently opposed to the chaining of the mentally ill, and proposed treating them with compassion and understanding. He also opposed slavery.

Miss Bliss, Grandma use speak fondly of Grand Father of Psychiatry.

However, she'd always preface fond memory that she was less than slightly, prejudiced.

After a few views, despite her prejudgment, meself finds his mining of American compacts not so kindly.

Folks in these parts get along fine, except the girls afflicted with abolishing.

Same spiterful Lincolnesqe thinkin', today in me opining murders American babies no less, proportionaly.

Grateful, i be that Grand pa learned to sign his name, shame remains that he was a damn liar.

I am not dissing all psychiatry, but it seems to me there are many comatose or catatonic or chained up patients here in the U.S., are there not? In other words, psychiatry hasn't kept all the mentally ill from having to be restrained, nor has it prevented all of them from being like vegetables.

From what I know, what this man did was wrong, however, his son was apparently getting violent and he apparently did not know what else to do.

This could simply be a matter of language.

We tend to call possession by evil female genies marriage.

That's all you got? How many people have been wrongfully "chained" inside mental institutions? Oh yeah, good job on all those forced lobotomies too!
