Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"My brain made me do it."

Shrinkwrapped's post on sociopathy is a good update, and raises intriguing, age-old questions about free will and responsibility which go far beyond the topic of sociopathy. The Greeks understood these things better than we do. Fate, personality temperaments, and all that.


Everybody's brain seeks excuses for their body's wrong or irresponsible behavior: My Brain Made Me Do it.


I might revise the title to "My brain made me blame my brain." That's the one I use when I screw up.


I have no answers to these conundrums (conundra?).

I'm a little surprised at you, Doc, for sticking to that antiquated old notion that somehow our "brain" thing is responsible for our actions, when, as any news site will tell you, it's far more simpler than that.

I have to say I appreciated the irony (?) of this post about the brain and the prior post about the BBQ sauce. Two different authors, of course. But at least we have covered the spectrum of human reasons for doing anything.
