Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Cuba should be a wealthy nation. Its advantages are numerous and obvious. There's only one reason for that poor old guy to be sitting there in squalor: other people put him there, and those other people are the half-century ago dangerously sappy do-gooders who thought they could get a leg up the moral superiority ladder by giving to a charismatic liar the keys to the state.
As if such a charismatic liar is EVER going to tell you anything but what what will get him into power & control. Moral superiority on the cheap is spiritual squalor, and squalor anyplace given time enough will be squalor everyplace. It's like those nightmares where something unspeakable is gaining on you, and you're trying to maneuver to a better position, but your feet just won't move.
http://www.financialsense.com/stormwatch/geo/pastanalysis/2010/0326.html The nuclear weapons treaty Obama will on April 8th sign with the Kremlin. The Senate will still have to ratify the treaty Buddy. Do you think they will do that?
Or have we done away with ratifying treaties? feeblemind, yep, but two things, (1) the nuclear strategic forces are, as Obama has pointed out "the president's weapons" --meaning he can abide by the treaty even in lieu of ratification, and (2) we have a sorry history of willfully blinding our verification --apparently (and hopefully, if you get my drift) so as not to embarrass any pol or agency.
Clinton turned such a blind eye to Reagan's INF Treaty verification that when the wall fell, eastern Europe was found to be literally festooned with illegal SS-23's, almost a hundred secret, hidden, kremlin-controlled Intermedite Range thermonuclear missiles with a total blast power of 500 or 600 Hiroshimas. "Oops!" Also, re civil defense and winning a nuclear war, starting before USSR broke up but tellingly continued without pause to this day, some 200 civil-defense underground living facilities including a full size underground city that is without doubt built to fight a war post-nuclear ICBM exchange --the Yamantau Mountain Complex --which we never inspect under any verification regime --it will have been again in Obama's treaty "exempted". The question is not IF we are slowly throwing in the towel, the question is "WHY, when nuclear weapons are so cheap and efficient at keeping peace in regards 'big' war, ARE we throwing in the towel?" +++ There's tons of info out there, i just pulled these two because they read well. but do expand search, if so inclined -- *ttp://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread171761/pg1 *ttp://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=17516 Great links. I don't know about Cuba but I can tell you something about Greece. And maybe it's the same where there are great hospitals in the city, but 4 hour out of Athens there is no ambulance. A broken hip injury this past summer took the patient by taxi 30 minutes to one hospital, the 45 to another when that hospital was unable to treat her, the 4 hrs to Athens when that one wasn't able to treat her. Can you imagine having a broken hip and being carted all over those Greek mountain roads in a taxi. Also if you do not bring cash in an envelope when you go to the doctor don't expect much. Another family member who'd had colon cancer needed a colonoscopy check up. Well, they tried to do it with no anesthesia. she made them stop and said she'd rather die of cancer than go through that pain. She was told well, we don't have anyplace for people to recover from anesthesia so we don't use it. And I use to envy their "free" healthcare.
Re Frum: I haven't had much use for him since he caved to CAIR and pulled a book about Islam NRO was peddling some years back.
As for losing is 100k/yr job at AEI, no one is saying he still can't express his opinion, he just can't do it on AEI's dime. I can understand why donors to AEI would not want to fund an individual who opposes their point of view. Finally, if "Intellectual conservatism' = Caving to the dems, which is what Frum seems to advocate, then I have no problem being a feeble minded conservative. Demcare is a monstrous law and no amount of GOP negotiation could mitigate that fact. I have to second feeblemind's viewpoint.
Frum has done little to advance conservatism and much to advance himself. AEI was paying him for work he was already doing for others. FumForum (if I remember that name properly) is still there; his voice is not silenced. He's just not getting someone else's money to promote himself. http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/03/its_hard_to_make_a_doctor.html
It's Hard To Make A Doctor TNJ outdid himself with this bonanza of links. The timeline for the gu'mint health care takeover implementation doesn't even include the 110 or so new bureaucracies to be created nor does it mention the tens of thousands of new pages of regulations to be written. What a nightmare! This must be stopped NOW!
The OTHER side of the Frum "resignation"...
