We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Great americana --esp after lingering over the politics far too unhealthily long for any kind of decent afternoon mood.
Say, if Kentucky wins --you could post up these two favorite sons --the Everly Brothers.
This video is a treasure --the two kids --18 and 20 --are so shy and goofy answering the emcee's questions they're just little boys --then the emcee steps away saying okay, go ahead and sing, and the kids stand up and in an instant completely change into grown-up major league performers, singing "Bye Bye Love" --a BIG 1957 hit --just perfectly lick-for-lick as the record sounded.
Nice shot of that country audience, too --grandmas and grandpas on down to 8 and 10 years olds --all clearly there for the music.
What a great time that was. I was one of them audience youngsters' age in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the time, and remember my 3-years older sister just dissolving into a heap of blubbering hysteria over the Everly Brothers.
