Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Dog du Jour: Kuvasz

We know that a Scottie won the Westminster Show, and everybody loves Scotties. I was partial to the Coonhound. My cuz emailed me that he had a show favorite: The Kuvasz. Never heard of them. Big dogs, bred in Hungary to protect livestock. Look kinda like a wolf in sheep's clothing:

Hilarious dog! The wolves must be hard-pressed to distinguish this guard dog from a sheep!

I've only ever known two Kuvasz, they were both alert, sweet, affectionate dogs with mischievous sense of humor. Nice dogs, like their gorgeous Magyar kin, the Vizsla, my second-favorite sporting dog.

I took a Livestock Advisor course through Washington State University Extension a few years ago. One of the speakers raised Maremmas for livestock guarding. I had never heard of them and can see they are gorgeous, looking something like the kuvasz --- here's some information:
