Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Independence Mall’s New Museum: The National Museum of Jewish History

Down the mall from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, a new museum will open next November, the National Museum of American Jewish History.  It tells the story of Jews in America, the many contributions from Nieuw Amsterdam to “God Bless America” to today in every walk of life, and the appreciation for the opportunities coming from being freer than elsewhere due to freer markets, speech and observance under the rule of law.  It’s the same story for every immigrant group to America.

Jews have been more successful here than any other country yet most (read secular), want to turn this country into Europe. Be careful what you wish for.

Look guys, number 1, this post is about a museum.
Number 2, your comments IMHO and involvement are both tangential and excessive.
Yes, most US Jews are liberal, esp. socially, but so are many "conservatives" who are socially liberal, and are not "Euroweenies." We are diverse. For example, see these varying stands by Jewish orgs. See that many of the leading conservatives are Jewish. See that most Jewish foreign affairs initiatives are for strong measures. See that depending on the candidate, Reps can get a majority of Jewish voters. See the extreme liberal stances of many Christian denomination orgs.
See that generalizations are too often self-blinding and counter-productive.

If there can be a whole museum about the Jewish Experience, it seems fair to address an entire, relative cohesive and distinctive culture with at least a few generalization tools. This is a culture that has given us a lot that I value very, very, VERY highly. It also has produced a few trends that I regret. (And I'm sure I could say this about any immigrant group, without disrespect or stereotyping.)
