We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I still think the Dem could win this election in a squeaker. The machine is powerful and fully engaged, and will be driving thousands of Dems from nursing homes to the polls - and I know that all of my beloved but misguided MA relatives will be voting D (and would be even if the candidate were a child molester or a mass murderer. It's just a habit which makes them feel virtuous).
So, as if our MA readers needed a reminder, take a few minutes and vote today. This is one of those elections where every vote matters. In my view, the mere fact that Brown has a real chance is astonishing.
BD good to see you trying to rally the Brown supporter's, with all the insightful posts and topics on Scott. Now if you could spend a little time dealing with that 800lb gorilla that's in Maggie's barn that would be nice too, just saying. PIP.
Brown isn't going to win, and I'll tell you why. Independents can't work on the polling stations, only Democrats and Republicans can. And the Republican Party has no infrastructure here, the state is locked up tight by the Democrats.
Example: My eighty-two year old mother is a poll worker in her town, the town clerk is a Democrat and assigns the poll workers. The town clerk knows my mother is a lifelong Republican and keeps quietly dropping her from the list of available workers, she has to call constantly to get back on. However, the other "republican" poll workers her works with are all Democrats, Democrats appointed by the Town Clerk to the "republican" spots in full knowledge that they are not Republicans. In her small town, in the other polling spots, every time she works somewhere, she is the only republican. I believe this to do true in my town as well.
So where the votes are handled, they are handled by Democrats, when they are counted, they are counted by Democrats. In some of the large cities the Republicans can get a few people involved to keep a eye on things, but in most of the Commonwealth its all Democrat.
Don't be surprised when the voting totals doesn't match the polling predication's by a wide margin.
