We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Along the same lines, from years ago, my mother, on hearing I was invited to a fellow fifth grader's birthday party, to be held at a bowling alley: "We do not bowl."
I used to hear NOKD; "Not our kind, dear." My dad was an old line WASP. One time in the '70's I asked him why he still bought Buicks, and not a Mercedes or BMW which he could easily afford. His reply was that they were too "ethnic" for him. Read, "Jewish."
The Snobby Brits of older generations would say: NQOTD. "Not quite our type, dear." Brits always sound more snobby than the colonists. They even spoke IM-ese in those days.... code is code, nothing new under the sun.
I never heard anything like this until I met my husband. His family were ethnic and class-conscious snobs--not that they had much to be snobbish about. As I visited my husbands relatives back East I soon realized that it is a different world than the midwest. I prefer the midwest.
