We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The truth is that most of the drivel that issues from the radical environmentalists' mouths these days is pure, unadulterated neo-Marxist fascism, disguised as compassionate concern for the planet; and steeped in a deep hatred of humanity.
The truth is that many moderates have not thought through the inconsistencies of their positions. Unfortunately, relativism is rampant today. Many of the guiding principles upon which America was founded and which have made this country great are being undermined by relativistic thinking.
Maybe they are afraid of offending others by taking a stand? But milquetoast is rarely respected or influential.
For example, take those who argue that the Constitution should be a living document. On the surface it sounds like we can be one big happy family. No one gets offended.
However, a little bit of thought brings about the realization that those who argue for a living Constitution are in fact killing the Constitution because the protections built into the Constitution to prevent the never ending encroachment of government power are neutered. And that takes us to where we are today.
The quicker we return to the concepts of limited government, the quicker our nation will heal.
Perhaps the poll indicates that many people know this at least on an intuitive level. Of course, people are uncomfortable with the rush to socialism and that has caused many to rethink the Obama experiment.
Has it occurred to anyone here that the government which is bungling badly the development and distribution of H1N1 vaccines to our waiting population, is planning to take over and distribute our 'universal' health care?
