We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I continue to be confused why the Left in this country is so absolutely hostile to Baptists in Alabama but are so deferential to Muslims in Saudi Arabia. Is it simply because one group makes credible threats of violence while the other does not?
On Coyote's post: the Left is hostile to America, Islam is hostile to America, so the Left is supporting Islam. The Left has failed to note that Islam is, generally speaking, against almost everything the Left claims it is actually for.
On the Constitutional authority to enact the insurance mandate: Maggie's Farmhands and Don Surber's loyal crew have been saying that Congress has no such authority for months. Nor is there any federal authority for the creation of a public option insurance plan.
It's a complicated reach, but I would love to see a Mattatusets resident sue under the 14th Amendment, saying that Mattatusets has no right to compel a citizen to purchase insurance, and such compulsion "abridges the privileges and immunities..."
I went to the effort of reading the original screed by Siegel, over at the reliably-leftist and often-amusingly-idiotic Huff'N'Puff Post - and was moved to leave the following commentary:
Having read this entire piece, I feel fully justified in stating what is so clearly obvious: Dan Siegel is just as much a lefty socialist-minded moron and an even more empty-headed wishful "thinker" than Mickey Moore-On, The Fat Fake From Flint himself.
What a total ton of tripe! Go back to writing books nobody reads, Danny-boy. Better yet, try some other form of occupation - writing isn't working out for you.
Of course, I fully expect to a) have my comment deleted and/or b) be blocked or banned from making further comments on Huff'N'Puff...
Our leaders dither while the noose tightens around our collective necks. Lack of an energy policy will ultimately.leave us to pay extorsion rates for oil and has once again. Our friends and enemies around the world must be amazed at the spectacle of American deconstruction.
