From this year's Manitoba trip

Heading north from Winnipeg about two weeks ago:

After about six hours, the road to our camp. Those birch woods hold plenty of Ruffed Grouse, but it can be a tough hunt without a dog:

More photos below the fold - can anybody identify the hawk perched next to the eagle?

On the road. Lundar, 99 k north of Winnipeg.

Heading out across a bay on the lake:

Funny how the lake water can sometimes have the hue of the Caribbean. Those are cattle wandering around:

My guess would be a red-tailed hawk, just on the basis that they are fairly common, but it's hard to tell. Red-tails are varied in their colours.

Correction: "ducks overhead" should read "Canadas overhead"

We think the hawk is a kestrel. Far too small for a red-tail.

My guess was just a wild stab in the dark. But that other bird is almost certainly an eagle. At least give me that much!

Probably not a Red Tail. Definitely not a Kestral. Maybe a Coopers Hawk. Long(ish) tail feathers peeking below the branch might be an indicator.
