We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Muskrat in the Tules

Must not have been a good day for dux if you guys were fooling around with your cameras talking photos of posing muskrats.

Au contraire, mon ami! Sat just above the head of the little exit river, and birds were swapping over in 3s & 4s intoi the mid-afternoon. We had a mallard, two teal, a shoveller, 10 redheads and 2 canvasback before going in for a hot lunch. Shot several boxes of shells in the effort, and Ms. Muskrat, well, she paid us no mind at all. We hunt with no dog out of a boat in the reeds, and push out to retreive every duck. Neither the boat movement not the shooting bothered her a whit, but when she startled us by climbing up the outboard's camo cover and joining us in the boat, my son nearly jumped overboard!

Late year - the aspens were only beginning to turn colors. Maybe it's the fault of Gore's SUVs and private jet. No, wait, it's Bush's fault.

As a long time lurker to this outstanding website I have to finally say you have complicated my hunting season here in Missouri. I have this desire to train my camera on some of the great things I see on my farm while hunting or just wandering about as a result of the great pictures here.

So, today as I trek to my bow stand the camera will be with me.

Seriously, there are inevitably quiet but beautiful moments in hunting. Capture them. Even makes those blue-bird days tolerable!
