Holiness, and Isaiah
From my blog comrade Brian at Real Meal Ministries:
Isaiah 6:2-4 2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” 4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
Isaiah is dumbfounded. He is standing in the temple and God is visible in all of his awesome glory. Yet there is even more. Seraphs are circling above God’s throne. These heavenly beings function as God’s attendants. The word seraph is related to the Hebrew word for fire. It is likely that these creatures appeared to Isaiah as flames of fire. Unlike God who remains silent, the seraphs proclaim two key messages about the One who is High and Exalted.
