We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It's a heck of a line-up, but, still, Bob does it best alone. For you youngsters, this song was Bob's Goodbye to "causes," and his Hello to the heart and soul. McGuinn's guitar dominates.
A whole post could be written about this one video. Harrison stepping up to the mike sent a shiver down my spine just now, just like it did when I saw the show live. There's just something ethereal about seeing him up there with the rest of the guys. You have to wonder if they felt awkward around him. I'd be thinking, "Well, sure, me and Clapton and McGuinn are all rock legends, but this... What comes after 'legend'?"
This video, however, does raise an age-old question:
Who sounds more like Bob Dylan? Tom Petty or Bob Dylan?
I'm leaning toward Tom, but it's always a tough call. :)
