School lunches from around the world

Kind of cool. (h/t, Ace). I would like to see more.

Many of those lunches look darn good, but the crap the American kids seem to want looks disgusting. Anyway, if I ate lunches like these I'd be asleep for two hours afterwards. An apple is about all I can handle if I have things to do.

Photo is a school lunch in China. Looks good to me - especially that fried fish.

The crap American kids seem to want to eat looks disgusting? A fish with its head on plopped on your tray isn't disgusting? I don't know what the school lunches are like in your state, but at my school, the lunch lines take forever because of the huge amount of choice - all of it outstanding food. Plus, we have a salad bar with so much on it you need two trays to hold what you want. Three to four choices of vegetables, several of meat......... and why am I writing this? I must be giving my universe meaning or something.

Sheesh. I wasn't attacking the USA. I'd just rather have a fried fish than chicken mcnuggets and tater tots.

BTW, I always cook fish with the heads on. Better flavor, and looks better on a platter.

Mmmmmm, fish freshly caught from the Yangtze. Those Chinese kids sure are lucky. Could be the fish isn't fried, but is exhibiting its natural appearance.

Buddy, I don't know what profession you are in, but methinks your not in the right one.
You should have replaced Johnnie on the Tonite show. Not Jay or Conan. Definitely a talented man you are. May the stars twinkle right back at you, when you look at them.

Yeah, the school lunches were so much better when I were a lad...tuna wiggle with potato chip topping, jello salad with sour cream, steamed hot dogs with no roll or condiment...

Do you mean that the crap Amercan kids "want" or what they are "served" looks disgusting? If the latter, remember that the school lunch program has been administered by the government for a very long time. If this is the best they can do, would you expect them to do any better taking on the job of running the entire US health care system? If you don't like what the all-knowing bureaucrats do to the food your kids eat, just imagine what they will do to your health.

I think they feed the kids what the kids want to eat. If they offered them really cool stuff, most of them wouldn't touch it.

Sheesh, BD. They have to serve a nutritious lunch. That means choices of vegetables and meat and the ubiquitous Jello and pudding. The food is good. The salad bar with fruit and veggies was outstanding. Have you ever been through a public school lunch line in the last 20 years? Many schools have taken out soda and snack machines. Trust me - they serve the right food. If the kid doesn't want it, his choice.

My point exactly, Meta, thank you. To me, some of the American school lunches looked fine, others were not so appetizing, even if they were supposed to be nutritious following govt. mandated guidelines. My wife looked at some of the Asian lunches and wondered if they were loaded with too much sodium for school children. She is on a low-sodium diet to control her blood pressure and is always worried about the salt in many Asian foods like shoyu, pickled vegetables, and salted fish.

Too much soy sauce on a fish is admission by the kitchen that it is substandard faire.
