Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The joke that Venezuela is becoming

It is truly a conspiracy to keep them poor and stupid.


There are a number of sites to visit to keep up with the totalitarian joke of a tin-pot dictatorship that Venezuela is turning into, but we still rely mainly on Venezuela News and Views. He retains some sense of humor about it all, despite the unfolding tragedy of a once-fine and hopeful nation.


It's a damn shame to watch them head down the Zimbabwean path to disaster while Fidel, Hollywood, and Ahmadinejad cheer Chavez on.

It's not so much a question of how far away that fate is, but of whether our current path is pointed in that direction. I'd say it is, and sooner we alter the direction, the better.

He will scorn and blame the USA until Obama distributes wealth to all Latin America.

Too much defeatism. If this is representative of conservatives' mentality, we really are doomed. Do you who bow your heads in resignation actually believe America will walk gently into that good night? If so, we deserve it.

Was meant to be absurd sarcasm around a kernel of truth.

This U.S. has an untapped and almost inexhaustible supply of talent and character that no tin-horn, bow-legged, yellow-bellied , mealy-mouth, socialist thug can deplete in only four years.
