Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

When are we gonna get this across to you folks: Reid is not worried about re-election, BECAUSE the unions/dems/casinos have already negotiated the outcome of the Nevada election!!! Those DAMN elections they were just getting in the way anyhow. Now that there are mail--in ballots and machine controlled counting (machines built by the same folks who build the slots) they don't even need to worry about getting found out. Just like WA state where the elections are a total fraud, Nevada's next election has already been decided!

OH Good--now Gregoire (union puppet) is going to make it possible for a large union company (Seattle Times) to get a tax break the rest of us won't get for sure! What she and her puppet masters refuse to acknowledge is that the Seattle Post Intelligencer closed down last month after years and years of being a government organ. That union controlled newspaper had long ago forgotten what investigative journalism means. They used to try to sell new subscriptions to that newspaper based solely on their coverage of sports and community events!

The hate crimes federal legislation has real potential teeth. A person may allege a crime at state level and the accused may be acquitted. If the accuser then makes a remotely plausible case for a "hate crime", the accused may have to go through the whole federal process again. This is exactly what happened in the Rodney King case -- the defendants were acquitted by a state court and two of four were then convicted by a federal court. The federal case was marked by such obvious bias that the whole thing should have been tossed at the grand jury.

Soo Geoff--WHAT do you propose that we should do about it--contact our legislators? Or, do you think maybe we could set up an organized community effort--you know--like those Democrats do it!

Howdy apple pie
We vote for people who oppose federal intervention in state matters. We vote for judges who interpret the law instead of making it. When judges are appointed, we vote for people who will appoint or confirm judges instead of robed social engineers. We vote as surly curmudgeons, devoted to managing our own lives and letting others manage theirs as long as they keep their troubles to themselves.
I acknowledge that I could support a sentence enhancement when a vulnerable target comes under attack by a thug who uses something like disability or gender orientation as an excuse for assault. But I'm not convinced that is right either.
