We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
WFB’s dystopic vision of being governed by the Harvard faculty has largely come true in the person of President Obama. He appears to have the political instincts, executive ability and private sector experience of your average liberal arts professor.
Ameerica's #1 growth industry: Government. And it always needs a bailout, from us. In fact, it is pure bailout.
America was never perfect, but it was never conceived to be some abstract utopia showcasing human perfection. The 56 men who came together to usher it forth understood that in order to form a more perfect union they had to pledge their lifes, their fortunes and most of all, their sacred honor. They understood clearly that human freedom only guarantees that mistakes will be made; but that the human soul is only able to thrive when human nature is allowed to be free. Further, they understood that society too, will inevitably progress when the individual human soul is unchained.
There's an interesting thing about waterboarding; many thousands of our own military, those in most risk of being captured by the enemy, have undergone waterboarding as part of their SERE training [Survive, Evade, Resist, Escape]. In fact, numerically speaking, stand this number up against probably less than 10 'enemy combatants' at Guantanamo being treated to this non-torture "torture" and you'll see how essentially idiotic and deliberately deceptive the Democrats have been about this hot-button issue. And I'm not even mentioning the quite illegal but fairly common method used by certain American police departments to give prisoners 'swirlies' to encourage them to own up to various crimes.
I certainly don't morally approve of all this. But realistically I understand that if you could by this non-torture method of interrogation get information which would prevent such appalling crimes as the Twin-Tower bombings and other terrorist plots which would kill thousands of my innocent fellow citizens and leave families bereft and grieving, I'd reluctantly do it. Scaring people is not the same as hanging them by their thumbs for hours, cutting off limbs and other vital pieces of human equipment, putting out eyes and cutting off heads.
Yes, our own police departments need to rethink their methods. Yes, waterboarding is terrifying and you think you're drowning. But the survivor survives without any lasting damage to his body. And I'm not deeply concerned about terrorists being terrified in their turn.
As a matter of fact, I'm not concerned at all about that.
If anyone here has the time, it would be very interesting to go back to that time in the Clinton administration when they were focusing on getting a gun control law passed. I don't remember what years those were--but, my memory seems to recall and it could be proven with a little research, that in the year leading up to the vote on the "Clinton gun control law/s" there was a serious increase in mass killing, murder-suicides, sniper attacks, etc. I think if you compared that dramatic increase with the increase we are currently witnessing--you will find a strong similarity! Get em while you can folks!
After you have a rich laugh at what happened to Michael Bellesiles (and rightfully --how DARE he sell lies as scholarship, while hiding his political motivation?), take a look at the truth, and how hard the other side tries to suppress it:
And, suddenly more and more and more and more. . . .
Not 'lovin' it,' he shoots Mickey D's drive-through
Man fired sawed-off into window after being told menu was breakfast-only.
By Erin Alberty
The Salt Lake Tribune
A McDonald's drive-through was shot up early Sunday after a customer was angered that the restaurant had shifted from the lunch menu to the breakfast menu, police said.
The driver of a white Dodge Intrepid pulled into the drive-through at about 2 a.m. at McDonald's at 210 W. 500 South in Salt Lake City and ordered food from the lunch and dinner menu, police said.
When a clerk told her the restaurant was serving only items from the breakfast menu, the woman drove to the second window, police said. Two men got out of the car, and one pulled a sawed-off shotgun out of the trunk, police said. He fired once or twice into the drive-though window before the two men and the woman left on 500 South and turned north on 300 West, police said.
The Intrepid was last seen going west over the viaduct on 400 South. The shooter was described as Polynesian, 6 feet 1 inch tall, with long hair in a ponytail, a beanie cap and a white T-shirt, police said.
No one was injured in the shooting, police said. Officers did not know how many employees were in the restaurant at the time.
There are also the three bodies (two little boys and an adult male) found somewhere in IL shot to death in a car.
Boy, oh boy, are you ready to give up your gun rights yet? Need more--they'll give you more.
