We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Adirondack fly fishing legend Fran Betters is ill, and asks for help in selling his shop and asks that, if you want one his hand-built rods, to buy one now. Been to his place a number of times over the years. Always in that chair, tying flies or building rods, with his wife in attendance. A crusty codger with a good heart.
I saw the heading and knew what would follow. I really hate to see the ending of a man's dream. I don't fish and I live in the upper left corner of the country instead of the upper right, but still wish good luck to Mr. Betters.
I challenge each of you to send this link to all of your fishing friends. I did.
Called and spoke with Fran and his wife today. Tough situation all the way around. Bought a few items, not much but if more do the same it may amount to something. They can use the help. Difficult time to sell the shop but some lucky person will get to live the dream. Buy what you can and pass the word along.
