We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The longer I work on climate change, the less important I think it is whether or not the warmists or the sceptics are right. [...] Imagine a world where we had listened to the climate scientists and started to change our resource-consuming behaviour and address the inequities of the global economic system. Although the warming still didnít materialise, we would have addressed a host of environmental issues and be living a largely pollution-free existence. We may even be saying thank you to the climate scientists who, although they got it wrong, provided us the opportunity to create a cleaner, brighter and fairer world.
Dear me, "Mr. Climate Change leader"... You think we'd be in a "better world" if we eliminated the use of coal and fossil fuels on the unfounded assumption that these are "bad" for Mother Nature? You think it's a "better idea" to damage the food chain by using vast quantities of crops like corn to put in our gas tanks instead of gasoline? To build vast fields of windmills which shred our migrating birds? Hmmm. Perhaps you'd better do some much needed research, objective research, before you make fatuous statements.
"We may even be saying thank you to the climate scientists who, although they got it wrong, provided us the opportunity to create a cleaner, brighter and fairer world."
The whole point of the global warming scam is to promote the "fairer world" where the evil rich capitalists are prevented from taking more than their fair share. So Edwards is willing to go along with the perversion of science in pursuit of what he and others on the left consider to be "fair". I'm not at all confident "fair" is what they'll come up with in the end.
BD has it pretty close. What people like "Climate Change Leader" want has nothing to do, at least not directly, with what fuels humans use to provide the power we use to live the way we do. They are after nothing short of altering the way we live. They want us to essentially return to the days of hunting and gathering subsistence living. Of course they will decide who hunts or gathers, what is hunted and gathered, and who receives what is hunted and gathered.
They'll continue to live with electricity, and autos, and aircraft and such, of course, because they are important.
Does this apply to mortgage brokers, lenders, property specs\flippers, ABS\MBS bankers and CDS traders?
Although they got it wrong, they gave us a generational lesson in the consequences of a) lending to those who cannot repay; b) repackaging and re-repackaging said loans to 'manage' risk; c) creating an entire sub-industry placing leveraged, company-sized side-bets on how the whole thing will work out; and, d) having Congress act as loan underwriters.
Where do we send the 'thank you' cards? And do we have to send one to Fannie, Freddie, WaMu, Countrywide, Citigroup, IndyMac, AIG, Lehman, Bear Stearns and Merrill, or can we just send them to our Reps\Sens?
Thank goodness these companies hired really smart people from the best schools. Imagine how bad it would have been with lesser intellects running those places.
I just don't understand it. How are alternative "green" energy technologies fairer than fossil fuel energy? Those ethanol plants, wind farms, and solar facilities are all owned by the same people that own the coal power plants.
I think these comments were just dissembling to justify his/her personal life choices and career track now that its becoming clear that the global warming threat/science is overblown or just plain wrong.
Also, when did "leader" become a synonym for "advocate"?
