We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I came upon the procession for Jonathan Roberge today on Route 2 west, going out towards Leominster. I didn't know what was going on when a state policeman stopped me at the end of the entrance ramp, waited until a procession of police went by with a hearse, then we all followed at a slow speed. All the firefighters from each town between where I got on and off were at the highway overpasses, saluting. A little boy was waving a flag at the exit I took. I was glad to find out what it was all about - and glad people are showing such appreciation for such a huge sacrifice.
