Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"chiseled pectorals?" Gimme a break! The author of this silly piece of drivel ought to be working for a Hollywood fan mag. If anyone thinks that we are too hard on the mainstream media after reading this puffery, he or she should have his head examined. "You know?" To quote Caroline the Inarticulate.

On another subject, the unbelievable pictures were gorgeous. The moon bridge one is especially spectacular. Thanks for finding and linking this ... takes away some of the bad taste from the "pectorals" flackery. Not to mention Caroline Kennedy's unjustifiable sense of entitlement.

Ve don't understand apple's Entitlements 1st posting at all, but English is not our native language. On the 2nd, he refers to a Washington (state) lawyer named McKay who in 2001 headed the non-profit Legal Services Corp. Good story!

When McKay was nominated as US Attorney, the Seattle Post Intelligencer said:

"A 1999 General Accounting Office study found that several regional Legal Services offices claimed they had handled 70,000 more cases than they could document.

"Republicans chided the agency for the inflated reports, noting that they use the number of cases the agency handles when deciding how much taxpayer money it should receive.

"McKay acknowledged the count was inaccurate, but said the agency was not intentionally misleading." [No, just did it for the money].

We think 70,000 cases of exaggeration statistiucally cannot be anything but deliberate.

So, Bush fires him and 8 other US Attorneys. Big deal - they serve at the pleasure of the President and cause is not needed. Remember the adulteror Clinton firing 93 US Attorneys in 1993? Everybody agreed it was his right to do so.

McKay, however, attacked back. According to the Seattle Weekly, "McKay, ever the prosecutor, hasn't gone quietly. He told some of his story to Senate investigators, and has now added new details in an article for the Seattle University Law Review (McKay is currently a professor at SU's law school). ...

"Taken as a whole, McKay's Law Review article sounds like a closing argument for locking up most of the Bush administration. Though he once picked his words cautiously when speaking of the Bush Justice Department, McKay refers to former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales as a "liar" with "sinister" motives, and says other Justice and White House officials also perjured themselves in Senate hearings as part of a possible criminal conspiracy."

Guess he felt entitled to the job!

Well, whatever happened to lawyer McKay? He got hired by Getty Images on May 21, 2007 and fired Sept. 17, 2007, and now is an adjunct law prof at Seattle U. "Adjunct" is fancy lawyer-speak for "unpaid".

Thanks, apple pie, for inspiring us to research this story pretty much unknown to us in the Northeast.
