We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Global Warming 4.0
I have a tough observation test for you (if you dare to take it, and I highly recommend you don't), but first a bit of history, written in my usual calm, clear, objective, pusillanimously pseudonymous style. Global Warming 1.0 was the original theme (s
As the Little Ice Age ended, the earth's temperature began to rise 0.5 C. This warming period occured in the 19th century and topped out around 1940. Most of the CO2 of the man-made variety came after 1940, so what is the explanation for most warming prior to 1940? While I agree with Lomborg that objective study should be funded, I wouldn't believe anything Al Gore says. He lies when the truth would serve him better.
Come on now, we surely aren't going to start letting common sense get in the way of Al Gore's orchestrated hysteria, are we? If we take this away from him how is he supposed to make a living? Anyway, the whole global warming industry never had a thing to do with helping poor people anyway. It is about making a few really rich people feel less guilty about their wealth, but making the rest of the world pay through the nose to do something about it.
Bjorn is my hero. I've read about him for the last 10 years or so, and he's gone from radical Leftist Greenman to a reasoned, passionate thought leader. I applaud him!!
I'm surprised the Copenhagen Consensus didn't list universal education and its accompanying empowerment among its top priorities. That way we could teach one generation about micronutrients, for example, and leave it to further generations to pass the word. I speak first-hand as a career veteran of the Peace Corps and with knowledge of the work of other development agencies. We've been talking up micronutrients in the developing world literally for generations, but still there is malnutrition. Why? The idea of micronutrients has never taken root. We tell a mother about them and then for it's news to her children 20 years later. (I've lived this experience.) The knowledge is not internalized because governments don't reinforce it. Simple changes in farming practices and diet can make a huge difference, but if they are taking place, it's at a glacial pace.
