We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A deep thinker? Justice Kennedy's Song of Himself. Related: Liberals collectively pee in their pants. I just want one more guy or gal in there who reveres the Constitution more than their personal preferences.
The self-inflicted economic death of Ohio. WSJ. A sad story. I like Ohio.
A website about "Creative Capitalism." My view: "Creative Capitalism" is the opiate of the mega-wealthy. If I invest in a business, I want my full share of the profits. I will decide, myself, what to give away, and to whom.
DURAGI, Afghanistan -- Early morning, and 14 U.S. soldiers stand in a semi-circle for a mission briefing. Four Humvees, engines running, rumble beside them. "We're going to Warshallah today," Army Capt. Sam Karr, 28, of Manhattan, Kan., tells his platoon. "I guess it has, like, 200 bad guys in it. That's nothing, dudes -- we've got 14, so we're good."
The social security mess analysis would be better if it realized that no amount of today's taxes or savings can help with future benefits. All of today's taxes must also be spent today, lest it disappear from the money supply.
The social security crisis is demographic, not monetary. And it's easily solved by fixing the demographics, namely raising the retirement age for benefits, when that becomes urgent. Then the demographics balance again and you're fine. More workers support fewer retirees.
I think there is a need for a pipeline (or pipelines) that can access Chicago. Could carry Alaskan and Canadian natural gas etc. to the markets from there. Read it is quite doable, and I think it was planned, with some substantial investments already on the line, but work looks doubtful now. I think the projects might be squeezed out by the UN-commodity, carbon, and by a lack of cooperation from the governments and the companys and people that can profit. Also by uncertain political factors like the election. The needed pipeline project looks to be badly wounded from friendly fire.
