We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Whatever happened to Moqtada?
Gov Paterson's "nice scandal." I think that was written before it came out today that he reportedly allegedly maybe used campaign funds for his no-tell motel get-togethers.
Re the Heller case discussed today, a commenter at the Chronicle of Higher Education blog says this:

An eye opening first hand account of an incidental contact with B Husseuin Obama-Smith-Jones-Washington-Brown.
*Obama's Anger*...American Thinker
"We're owed and they aren't." ...Obama
In short, he concluded, "they're hungry and we think we're owed. It's crushing us, and as long as we think we're owed we're going nowhere"
(other person in encounter)
There was a student there I'll never forget. He was plucked out of the projects in Denver and given a free ride to the university. One day in my office he told me that his mother had said the following to him: "M.J., they owe you this. White people at that university owe you this." M.J.'s experience at the university was a glorious fulfillment of his mother's angst.
A very enlightening article.
If you guys aren't reading Neal Boortz on your daily rounds, you really should:
He's a cantankerous old bastard who hates kids and smokers and pretty much everything else under the sun, but he really nails the issues sometimes. Today's column is no exception.
BD, was it you who ran the chainsaw article a while back? I direct your attention to the bottom of the above page, the "Redneck Scrap Book" entry. TOO awesome!
BD: Was just now drifiting around the back corridors of MSNBC.com, my personal favorite news site (also endorsed by TigerHawk!) and came across this article on why birds sing. Kind of a dry article, but of possible interest:
Also, if you hurry, on the same page you can catch the "Global warming hastens the arrival of springtime" link.
According to weather.com, it's currently (11:40 am) a balmy 37 degrees in Keene. "Feels like 31."
I just thought you might like to know that your unseasonably warm spring is due to global warming, not cooling.
I read it on a professional news site, so it must be true.
Starbucks: Here in the Willamette valley the Starbucks are still popping up like dandelions. For some reason they cluster 4 - 6 of them within a few blocks of each other not counting the mini-starbucks in the grocery stores. The last official Dunkin' Donut closed last month - sigh.
I'm some what frugal and enjoy gourmet coffee as much as the next addict but I've never understood the logic of dumping $80 - $100 a month on coffee no matter how good the taste or atmosphere.
It appears that Starbucks is in for a long rough patch though. I've was able to try the gourmet coffees at some of the McDonald's pilot locations - very good for a good price. It's not as prestigious as Starbucks but for those looking for value will be getting the best of both worlds taste and price.
Mr. Gingrich is excellent. Think anyone will listen? I do not ever recall an election like this one. It is not good.
Saw the Liberals in Canada use the CBC to turn their branding of Canada into entertainment. PM Chretien was on "This Hour Has 22 Minutes", a comedy "news" show a lot. He would often appear with Rick Mercer a comedian who is endlessly employed on the publics dime to feed Canadians a required allotment of Canadian Liberal "culture". People ate it up too. The show was very popular.
I think that Hillary on "Saturday Night Live" is the very same modus operendi. Lorne Michaels is a Canadian. He knows how the pros at the CBC push the Liberal agenda and he can do the same sort of thing from NYC for the Clintons and the Dems. At least it is not on the taxpayers dime at SNL like it is at the CBC.
Some cuts from 22 Minutes and Rick Mercers very popular,"Talking to Americans" here...
Heard the idea for "Talking to Americans" may have been taken from Jay Lenos' "Talking to College Students" skit. Could be the other way around though. Do not know which one was done first.
And a Happy Spring back at ya.
I'd like to say how much I appreciate this site and the wonderful job the staff at MF does, day in and day out in keeping such an interesting place running so well.
The range of topics amazes me and it's like a celebration of life every day.
Thank you all at Maggies Farm.
I keep reading and hearing during this election about which candidate is going to get us out of Iraq the quickest, etc.
My understanding of Islam is pretty good and I fail to see any evidence on their part that they intend to leave us to enjoy a peaceful existence even in our own country.
I believe the regnant paradigm throughout history is war. Just how do the two Democratic Socialists plan on avoiding war? Clement Atlee and others in history have proved that you can sign papers all day long saying war is bad etc but the inevitable result is war.
President Bush from the get go said this would be a long war. He never hid that truth.
I believe Americans need to recalibrate what it takes to remain free. If they do they can reach only one conclusion. That new wars will occur and people will die.
I'd hoped way back before I was born that the Kellogg-Briand Pact outlawing war (1928) would work, but alas, once I was born I found out it too was just a piece of paper.

BD, I did not post Reply 5.1 to my post #5. Someone else used my screen name. I do not want a sock puppet or a troll using my name.
Thank you. Appreciate that.
Happy Spring MF:) It is snowing a bit here. Spring skiers are happy.
My apologies. I erred in placing your name where mine should have been on the Gingrich is excellent deal ... I think I did include my first emoticon ... :)
I make that mistake sometimes if my glass eye falls out and I have to catch it before it's covered in cat hair while roll'n on the rug...then the cats start batting it around ..it can get ugly...sorry.
