We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Physicists at Harvard have been able to play all sorts of games with light.
Astonishing, but I guess the math predicts it. NYT Science Times.

Sorry for so many posts.
THIS IS UNREAL. I thank God we have people with brains and imagination, the funding and the tools, to get something this amazing going.
The writer did a great job of making something uber complex totally understandable.
BD..thanks for staying on things like this. I don't know why but I have had a huge smile on my face since reading about this..it's Tom Swift and Jules Verne .. it's just cool..
But like man what are their times in the 40. What's their verticle leap?. Can he squat 1000lbs? Can they dunk over Shaq? Outdrive Tony Stewart or Little Ernhardt?
Like what good are they?
When I took my first Physics class, I was most interested int he professor. However, I will never forget the lesson about light. I was taught that on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday light was a particle, but on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday light was a wave. Sunday was anybody's guess!
Oh gosh, how I love what great steps forward we have been allowed to take in the scientific realm!
It's late, but tomorrow I'll dig up some links on Jim Simons, of the Renaissance Medallion Fund.
Simons runs a "black-box" trading fund that has averaged 36% annual gains for some 10 or 15 straight years.
He has just given $25mm of his own, to start-up "Math for America", a scholarship program upon which he hopes to build a public case for returning some market-forces to the teaching of math.
He says the situation is dire, and deadly, as is.
Seems when Habu's moods churn in the right way, he becomes like butter, ready for any kind of ethnic bread.
But why on earth would such a character curdle, and so cheese the company of his transatlantic forebears, without whom he'd be a colonial welp scrambling savings to afford a large sheet of oil paper for his bay window?
He was not nearly so smooth and savory when he suggested British life is worthless. Funny how the Brits can so easily find you, eh, Pip?
I've told three forums that were enraged by your comments about your residence and they will make their presence known to you.
Oh, you just wait, you're in for a proper scolding, a ball harder than hard will be thrown your way, and your Drudgegod and Ecumenical Council of Oreilly will not have the dogmatism to interupt!
A grand reckoning awaits for you, awful mannered and foul mouthed one! Englishmen pride themselves on correcting knaves. You forgot that it was us, not you Burger-eating Flatus monkeys who invented chivalry.
It made a Gentleman out of Singh but I cannot say the same for Bush or you, Mr. SR71.
And do you know that the British have radar that can see all your socialized Stealth planes? I don't suppose those B-2s can help with your 50 million uninsured now can they? Its getting early and I must be heading to work. If you apologize, Habu you will prove yourself a better man. I hope you do the correct thing.
I'm with the gent above.
You bodgered up a nice thread with your awful remarks about religion, man.
We saw you post at your Yank Elephant Bar as well. Piss off a Brit enough and he will be like your shadow. The internet makes this truism global, as you needn't be bopping around the Thames looking to offload some puddings you lifted from a loo to be within our moral power.
You may want to ask yourself what its like to live in a morally powerless hemisphere?
I do not know if I would call it the morally powerless hemisphere but I do know that wherever I go, people of every shade of brown and black are eager to learn about Britain.
I honestly believe the UK is the new shining city on the hill. Perhaps it is where liberty has fled to seek a steward, as America goes through its centennial existential tantrums.
I hope she calms down soon. I very much loved majestic Michigan and illustrious Indiana.
Maybe he was just blowing off steam
I do not know if confronting him about his opinions will tell him the errors of his ways.
I think he likes being ignorant. Its sad really.
Scold him all you want and he will just get more irate and rude. It is rather unBritish to think you can fight rudeness with rudeness. Rude for rude makes the world crude...
Molon Labe ...
Apologize? I don't even know what your talking about.
But make no mistake, if I've offended you in any way it was well deserved. And even if it wasn't, in your opinion well deserved, just what the hell do you think you can do about it?
Correcting knaves? Huh. I'll have you crying for your mommy if you happen to know who she is.
habu, it's 'daddy' that a bastard don't know who it is.
EVERYbody knows who mom is, because of the gestation.
Remember, against these clever foreigners, you need to be sharp.
Don't some Mom's abandon their babes in trash bins and at the Sr. Prom? Then how would you know who the trollop might be?
Let's see, thermite, det cord, trip wire in place. Got Robust , my Rottweiler roaming the fenced Florida acre. Got the .45ACP,the M-16 new 6.8mm model and tomorrow I pick up my new AKM-47 B1.6 here http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=350..
Let 'em come..
My words to live by:
Cowards die many times before their deaths.
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear,
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come.
My father use to laugh when shows would interview vets about "Were you scared?"
and the vet would usually answer "Hell yeah , and anybody who say thay weren't a liar"
I asked my father if he was ever scared in any of the three wars he was in and he said "nope, never was" and then he would usually recite the Shakespeare to me.
In my much more limited warfare experience, all covert, I was never scared either, and sometimes things would go real wrong. Just like you Texans, there ain't no quit in my heritage of Tennesee,Alabama, and Georgia. I sure do wish I had some Virginia in me though cause I do admire Geo. Washington. Maybe one day I'll do my geneology, I've got a family Bible that'll take me back to 1840's..that's a damn good start.
1840s, I'd say so--my people didn't even have last names back then.
I have a 1911 too, old, from a great uncle who got 'er new in the 20s. I found out it was a limited edition worth scads, and now I hate to fire it. Tho I do, anyway, since I'd already left it laying around in trunks and boats and hanging off tree limbs so many years when i was younger and dumber. Ruint what had been a fine finish. Dumbass. It has never jammed on me, not once. And it's accurate, if you 'look' the bullet onto the target. You know, that zen thing with hitting with a 1911.
Buddy, I haven't fired the 1911 in about 30 years. I'm taking to a gunsmith and have it "detailed" It's in great shape.
If you didn't catch the kurfufflee with the liberal Scots I had check it out..good ole insulting Habu...
Oh, man, that was great reading--I read the whole thing--jeez, couldn't quit--like popcorn.
I thought all those hot & bothered posts @ Maggies were you just having another splitting episode. But now I know they were enraged Scots pinkos. Well done!
Especially toward the end when you admitted you really like them, anyway, as allies. The slaps across the face re
"Londonstan" are terribly needed.
Yeah, I stuck a big stick in the wasps nest.
Now they're making threats, which explains my comment above about Molon Labe.
The one dude said I didn't want a Brit shadowing me. Buddy I swear I'm not bragging on myself but I've been followed by the KGB half way around the world while evacuating TS material from Saigon in April of '75. I'm obviously older but I work out every day, do Tai Chi and am a damn good shot.
They better bring their lunch and dinner.
....also I haven't posted on EB but once this year and that was one sentence long. So they went back in the archieves to read me. It's nice to be wanted.
Well, if you see Sean Connery parked out front in an Aston-Martin DB5, you'll know yer F****d.
It really is astonishing how hook, line, and sinker those people have bought every crooked line the left has ever spun.
Despite tsunamis of real-world results (starting with the delightful USSR), by a lefty no lesson is ever learned, no motive not impugned, no good deed let stand unsmirked.
Well we have a good percentage of socialists in this country as the closeness of our presidential elections are showing....but that countries like Scotland would remain socialist, as well as Grt Brt. when they can easily see countries like S Korean,Japan,Taiwan are all doing better under capitalism..
I guess it's just a big world.
all ya need is 50.1% of those who vote, and you can elect a ham sandwich. i guess the propaganda works. remember, half of the people are always gonna be below the median, brain-wise.
