We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Is "gender dysphoria" a mental disability?


Apparently a court says it is.


I do not know what it is, but I know there is some sort of mass hysteria going on about it and it will not end well.

Transgender activists don't want it both ways, they want it all ways, always their way.

I've been asking for some time "what is the physical basis for gender" and nobody can or will tell me. I used to live in Germany and in German the nouns have gender. Humans don't have gender.

Gender Dysphoria is recognised as a mental health condition (NOT disorder) and has a set of diagnostic criteria in the DSM.

It's definitely NOT a fun thing to have (and yes, I have it, I am considered transgender, and no I am disgusted by the ideologues).
It leads to massive stress, anxiety, and depression, which is a big reason why so many people who have it end up suiciding, especially in areas where they get discriminated against, assaulted (both physically and mentally), and cast out of society simply for what they are.

The causes are largely unknown, but suspected to be in large part related to the early brain development (possibly triggered by hormone imbalances), made worse by environmental and social factors.

There are two problems highlighted by this issue:
Equality and insanity.

The judge allowed gender dysphoria to become a "special treatment" category that isn't available to you or me BUT will be paid for by you and me. There should be no special privileges, no welfare, disparate treatment or free stuff. We should all receive the same treatment under law regardless of if that hurts your feelings. IF someone can get gender change surgery paid for by taxpayers because of this "disability special treatment fraud" THEN everyone should get free surgery. No more legalized discrimination!!

Second; if you think your are a different sex than your biological sex you are mentally ill and should either be committed if you are unable to function in society. And NO ONE should be required to go along with your bizarre fantasy.

second is BOGUS.

First I don't know about, I've not read the verdict. But treatment for gender dysphoria, once diagnosed, should be available like any other treatment for any other medical condition, to those suffering from it.
Treatment for medical conditions shouldn't be denied because some bigot or religious zealot (big overlap between the groups) thinks the medical condition is "a mental illness and people suffering from it should be removed from society" (which tends to lead to those people being killed, but I think you consider that a perfect solution to anyone who's different from you).

It's about getting kids to consider the best sexual orientation before heterosexual attraction kicks in at puberty.

It should be called "trends-genderism" at this point. The majority of cases are sexually confused kids who want to earn oppression points.
