We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When I was getting my teaching certificate in orchestra, I did my practicum at a wealthy suburb outside DC. The orchestra teacher had struggled for years to make a descent orchestra, but it wasn't until there were a critical number of ambitious Asians in the school that the orchestra began to travel and win prizes.
I was conducting a brandenberg concerto, and, being a green-horn, said something llike, "ah, I've discovered the chink in your armor" when looking for some way to make the the sound less muddy.
The reaction was so bad that the teacher pulled me off the podium and finished the class with me sitting in the office, humiliated. I hadn't even recognized that I said something offensive till she pulled me off!
Diversity plus proximity! My ancestors have been here for 400 years, and I'm run off and demeaned by high schoolers
