We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I wondered that too. But the comments on the Youtube video had this info about the cameraguy/cinematographer: https://www.oniceperspectives.com/about
Like the rest of you, I was blown away by the skill of the skaters and the camera work. And I usually find something else to do when my lovely bride watches ice skating or ice dancing in the Olympics. If it was all like this, I would watch!
Figure skaters don't use helmets because it throws off your balance when doing complex moves. Backwards crossovers and jumps launching from a backwards position demand a clear field of view. You lose side vision out of the corners of your eyes. You cannot execute a correct backwards crossover when you can't see over your shoulder behind you. Plus, since your head weighs so much more than other parts it would throw off the mechanics when spinning which are tough enough as it is.
