We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Summing up personality types, or at least dominant personality traits, in a simple phrase has probably gone on as long as language has existed. "That guy's a jerk - stay away."
Theophrastus (370-285 BC), a student of Aristotle and a botanist among other things, made a list of the types which have been used in drama ever since. They are of course one-dimensional character types (we could term them stereotypes) but I think we all use phrases similar to those to describe people: The Flatterer and the Chatterer
There are many personality types but there are really only two kinds of people. Those who would harm you; physically, financially, sexually, verbally, etc. and those who won't. There isn't a fine line separating them and there can be some overlap. This is the significant characteristic to be concerned with. The openly hostile or aggressive person is bad and should be treated with caution. But the conniving, acting, crafty, plotting type is the most dangerous. Usually they will smile, appear friendly and try to get close to you both physically and emotionally. Never trust them, never turn your back on them and never doubt their ability and willingness to harm you. Also do not forget that key adjective in that description is "acting"; they are acting and their intent is to deceive and behind that deception is a purpose and you are the target or part of the plan to get to the target. It is likely that you have met this kind of person many times. If you have nothing that they want it is just as likely you never identified them for what they are.
“Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts." Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago
Missing from the list of personality types are: The Creator, The Builder, The Inventor, The Teacher, The Healer, The Nurturer...Come to think of it, the list only contains negative personality types. The author of that list must have been an an early democrat. As we have seen democrats think everyone (but them, of course) is flawed and, therefore, must be controlled and corrected.
